Royal Academy 2003, my Reynolds Lecture
|
Sir Joshuah Reynolds, seen here in an early self-portrait, would certainly have disapproved of my 2003 Reynolds Lecture at the Royal Academy - a prestigious annual event in his memory. I used the occasion to berate the academy for its undervaluing of the crafts as opposed to 'fine art' - an attitude understandable in the 18th century, when Reynolds became the first president, but less acceptable now.
